Fun. Art. Photography.

Welcome! Thank you for visiting Patricia Martin Photography. I'm a chef, chauffeur, social secretary, coach, teacher, firefighter and finder of all things lost. Or "Mom" if you're one of my kids. :) While I spent a greater portion of my life interested and or occupied with still photography, it wasn't until my children were photographed by a mall chain store that I really found my passion. A parent's greatest memory of their child comes from a stolen shot, a fortunate meeting of camera and personality. My greatest joy is to capture a moment that sparks a memory in years to come of the child that was and that still is, a part of each and every one of us. I look forward to spending time with your families.

A most pathetic way to strap one’s……assets.

I belong to a mom’s forum made up of some of the coolest chicks I’ve ever been able to claim as friends-I’ve-never-met. Not only are they generous with their time and talent but the admins on the site are now offering a giveaway. Now usually, I’d put about as much effort as I could, which is limited by all my other sundry responsibilities but this giveaway…..well, let’s just say it captured my full and undivided attention.

You see, I have a pricey little camera I like to tote around on my person and as of now I have one of two options for it’s support.

As you can see these straps leave a lot to be desired in the way of aesthetics not to mention actual usefulness. The black strap on the left is my go to strap, it’s neoprene and is actually kinda comfy. But it’s frayed and has too much give so my dear, sweet D700 bounces around like a yo-yo. And if that wasn’t bad enough, I recently dipped it in a bit of interior latex. The paint just screams “professional” no?

Now, the strap on the right, she’s got a history. This baby graced the necks of my mom, dad and me at during the late 70’s and early 80’s. It’s full on, authentic, vintage… you can almost smell the patchouli. Totally not my style and the lining feels like an emery board, but is currently my only option other than the uber cool Jackson Pollack neoprene.

So now you’re wondering,  “where this is all leading”. Well, I want one of these. The BlackRapid RS-W1 camera strap. It’s my Red Rider, my Eleanor, my grail. She’s exactly what a woman’s camera strap should be and my Clickin’ Moms are giving one away. And I want it. Bad. All they asked for was a photo of me with my strap and a sob story about the craptacity of my current strap. Well, they are going to have to take what they can get because I don’t do self portraits right now do to the overwhelming amount of rear-end I’m currently packing. So sorry girls, this is going to have to do.

So please CM’s if not for me, do it for my camera, she’s way too sexy to be sporting hand-me-downs.

San Jose Livestrong Challenge 2010

Posted on July 12, 2010

Hello my friends,

It’s been a while, I know. We’ve had so much going on here at the Martin casa that my sad little blog has continued to suffer.

I had the opportunity to photograph a wonderful, passionate group of fundraisers for the 2010 San Jose Livestrong Challenge. Pat’s Posse has raised over $14,000 this year alone in support of the wonderful work being done on behalf of those stricken with cancer. This slide show represents just a small portion of the photos I took of this amazing and I might add gorgeous group of people.

I’ll have more about this event and big changes here at home in the future.
