The Experience
My style is very fluid and I love experimenting, but the one thing that endures in my photos is happy kids. At my sessions, I want kids to have fun! I strive to design sessions around a child’s developmental stage and interests. I don’t expect a 2 year old to sit still and smile pretty anymore than I expect a 5 year old not to have his very own ideas about how his session should go.
Clothing and Hair
Children should be dressed and coiffed before the session begins. Nothing makes a kid crankier than having their hair brushed or face wiped. Clothes should be comfortable but stylish for the best results. For girls, I recommend cute clips and hairbands to keep hair off their face. Try to avoid single ponytails but two are super cute! If your child is prone to fly-aways, try to get a little hairspray on them. Trying to remove fly-aways after the fact degrades the quality of the photos. If you need help with wardrobe, call me and we can discuss ideas.
Preparing your kids for the session
If your kid(s)have any fears or favorites, let me know! I love to take photos with treasured toys. I am aware that some kids have some fears about any number of things, please let me know. I have an old stand by line about a monkey in my camera that usually works like a charm for sweet smiles, but one little girl was terrified of monkeys. I felt awful!
Newborns
Newborn session are a little more complicated. I have prepared a file here to help explain.
If at anytime you have any questions about how your session will be conducted, please feel free to contact me.
